Traditionally in East Africa, smallholder coffee farmers have been paid in cash. By paying the farmers in cash, the payment process is not transparent, which has made it difficult to ensure the farmers are receiving the payment they are entitled to, as well as making it impossible for consumers to tip the farmers. We have therefore set up a system to put hundreds of smallholder farmers online, thereby directly connecting our producers to our consumers and making the process 100% transparent.
